Acción Latina is a nonprofit organization founded in 1970 that is dedicated to promoting cultural arts, community media and civic engagement as a way of building healthy and empowered Latino communities. This includes (but it is not limited to) a free, award-winning bilingual newspaper, El Tecolote.
I love the mission and the core values of Acción Latina and I am glad to use my design skills to support their goals and challenges. I collaborate in producing illustrations for both print and web, and graphic assets to promote social and cultural events.
My engagement with Acción Latina is getting more exciting and challenging in 2020. I am glad to work with the staff taking up the position of Advertising Manager.
I manage multimedia, photo/editorial, and file components of El Tecolote advertisements online and print. I have primary contact with advertisers, solicit ads sales, and support the Editor-in-Chief.

October 10 is Indigenous People’s Day and I am asked to design and illustrate a poster and graphics for social media to promote a live streaming event to celebrate this special day

Acción Latina | 2020 Census Postcard
The census, which takes place once every decade, aims to produce an accurate headcount of every single person living in the 50 states, Washington D.C., and five U.S. territories. Census results determine billions of dollars in federal funding, how many seats each state receives in the U.S. House of Representatives, and influence how congressional and state legislative districts are drawn.
2020 census is a crucial time for the Latino community. Multiple studies found that a citizenship question would pose a major barrier to participation among immigrants, especially Latinos, who worried the question would be used to identify undocumented immigrants in their families.
In order to combat the residual fear from the proposed citizenship question, I collaborated with Acción Latina to deliver factual information and provide reassurance developing a bilingual 5” x 7” census postcard.

To encourage the Latino community in San Francisco to participate in the 2020 Census, I developed an illustration used in a series of posters displayed in the Mission neighborhood.

El Tecolote | Ads design
On August 2020 El Tecolote celebrated its historic 50 years of service to the Latino community. Supporters had the opportunity to join this historic celebration by purchasing a congratulatory ad.
